The making of Lino Cambi

How it came to be.

Every place worth staying in has a story underneath it. This is ours — from a hill and a humble stone house above the Libyan Sea, to the walls rising on the cliff today. It is still being written, every week. Κάθε μέρα πιο καλό — every day more beautiful.

I · The finding

A hill, and a feeling.

It began with a hill on the south coast of Crete, and the feeling of not being able to leave it alone. Yossi came back, and brought the people whose eyes he trusts.

The land as it was found — the headland dropping to the Libyan Sea, an island on the far water.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. The first visits, and the expeditions that followed — who came in those early seasons, the friends and the experts, and what each of them came to look for in the land, the air, the water. Sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. ← Yossi: the first-visits / expeditions story goes here

The house on the ridge
Its courtyard, under old vines
The blue door, under the vine
The pithari, along the sea wall

The old house as they kept it — stone, blue-framed arches, and the terracotta pithari lined along the wall above the sea.

On that ridge stood a humble, beautiful Cretan stone house under a roof of old vines, kept by an old couple — Agapitos, whom the coast knew as Barba Gapio, and Dymitra.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet. Who Agapitos and Dymitra were to Yossi — the kind of people they were, how long they had kept the house, what they came to mean to him. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris. ← Yossi: Agapitos & Dymitra's story goes here

When they let the house go, they did something Yossi has never forgotten. They left it exactly as it stood, and took nothing — a whole life, left whole, for whoever came next.

Their photographs, left on the wall
The long room, as it was

What they left behind — their own photographs still on the wall, the long room exactly as it had always been. A life handed over whole.

The first drawings, at the old table

It was so full of that life that it took Yossi and his friend Gil Elkarif three days only to clear it. Then ten days, around the clock, to bring it back — the first renovation, the old stone waking up.

Lorem ipsum — a line or two on those ten days with Gil: the state of the house before, the work, what it looked like after. Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit. ← Yossi: optional, the before/after of the first renovation

II · The dream

We never found the word.

Then we began to imagine what the house could become. Not a sanctuary, not a resort, not a retreat — we never found the word, so we kept the one the land already carried: Lino Cambi. A name handed down so long its meaning is lost, even to the family who kept it. We did not dare change it. We are only its keepers.

This is what we drew — the promise of the place.

The house as drawn — alive at dusk, the long table set, the sea going dark below.

The fireplace lounge
The kitchen, and the long table
A suite, waking to the sea
A bath, by candlelight
The pergola, at sunset
The cliff bath

A few of the drawings — the character of what is coming. The rest live across these pages — the suites, the spa, the place.

III · The becoming

Every day more beautiful.

Every evening, as the light goes, Yorgi — our master builder — says the same three words over the day's work: κάθε μέρα πιο καλό. Every day more beautiful. This is the real, rising to meet the drawing. The aim was never to match the renders. It was to make the real more beautiful than the dream. Newest first — scroll, and hold us to it.

October 2026

The whole of it

The whole of it, from the ridge. Where there was wind and thyme, there are walls now, and rooms with the sea already in them.

The climb

The stair to the ridge, poured step over step. By the top you will have left something behind without meaning to.

The plunge

The cold plunge, cut into the living rock. The water will be the sea's own cold.

The house-face

The face of the main house, its arches straight off the plans. Grey, for now — it will not be grey for long.

The pergola

Where the long lunches will happen. For now, raw beams and the open sky — but you can already feel where the shade will fall.

September 2026

The arch

The great arch of the main house, cut straight from the plans. Grey concrete for now — but you will walk through it one day and feel something you cannot quite name.

Every window

A room with the sea already living in it. The glass is not in yet — the view got here first.

The span

The long span, caged and poured. What reads as a bridge is the spine the rooms will hang from.

The mark

A mark cut into the stone, in a shape we chose with care. You will feel why, long before anyone explains it.

August 2026

The ascent

The great stair taking shape in stone. Every arrival will climb it — that is not an accident.

The ground before

The ground

Where it all stood before the first wall — the old house among the olive terraces, the thyme, the wind. Everything above grew from here.

The doors open June 2027. Until then we build in the open — every stone, every week. Κάθε μέρα πιο καλό. Come back, and watch it rise.
